Former speaker of the Parliament of the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic” Andrey Purgin said to the Russian service “Bi-bi-si” that he was suspended from office with violations, but he’s not going to fight and will continue “to engage in political and parapolitical activities”.
Deputies of the Parliament of the DPR voted for Purgin’s resignation from the post of speaker on September, 4. Denis Pushilin was elected the acting head of the Parliament; he is also the representative of the DPR on the negotiations in Minsk on resolving the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
Later the information appeared that the Purgin was detained by employees of “State Security Ministry” of the DPR.
In the conversation with Oksana Voszdaeva the correspondent of bbcrussian.com Andrey Purgin told her how he handled his resignation and about how he sees the future of the self-proclaimed DPR.
Bi-bi-si: There was rumored almost about shooting. What happened to you actually?
Andrey Purgin: I was arrested along with my wife and Alexei A. Alexandrov [the son of the chief of staff of the people’s Council DPR Alexei Alexandrov – Bi-bi-si]. I was detained for four days then I was released. They kept me in the building of the Ministry of State Security (MSS); MSS said that they protected me from some Ukrainian sabotage and intelligence group which was to steal or to kill me, or even to do something. Clearly, this is a funny version. I was detained on the way to Donetsk, we didn’t reach the border.
Although my alleged resignation was conducted with violations and was an absolute mess, I’m not going to fight for this case. Denis Vladimirovich [Pushilin – Bi-bi-si] we have in eight guises: he is humanitarian missions in manual mode commands, and now Chairman of the people’s Council, and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Donetsk Republic, and the representative of the DPR on Minsk negotiations, and working on football… You cannot name all of this; there are a coke and agriculture: there is still room to grow.
I’m not going to interfere with this activity. I’m wondering: to take the mandate or not – I haven’t decided yet. But I plan to engage in political and parapolitical activities. Ten years ago I and my colleagues – many still alive, although not all – had created a “Donetsk Republic” as a network organization, organization of development. Now I’ll likely return to the life a good, powerful and effect network, which has helped us in 2014 to win the Ukrainian state and to defend our freedom. That is going to work as part of a network “Donetsk Republic”.
Plus, I try to help the communities of political refugees from Ukraine which have accumulated a huge amount on the territory of the DPR and Russia. We have only from Kharkov more than one and a half or two thousand people, and it is without families; with families it’ll be greater. We are engaged in ideology, consultations, round tables; we have generated a positive agenda, an ideological platform for the future. I hope it will be useful not only to the Donetsk People’s Republic and, possibly, some recipes will be used in the Russian Federation.
Bi-bi-si: And what does this permutation mean?
A. P.: I don’t know, honestly. Denis Vladimirovich knows this at us.
Bi-bi-si: They talk about the conflict with Alexandrov. What kind of conflict, and how you are related?
A. P.: I don’t know how. Who has the conflict? What conflict? This man was the head of the unit, was engaged in a purely hardware functions. Aleksey Georgievich Aleksandrov himself for a long time consists in the Russian movement, he was for many years a Deputy Head of the “Russian bloc” – such a powerful party was in that time.

very honored in the Russian movement, and these people are very well-deserved, so, you know, the sages of the Russian movement. And Aleksandrov is on one of the highest levels among all those people who fought for the freedom of the Russian movement in Ukraine.
His work was apolitical, no superposition’s activities he was not engaged. During the year it was published just two short interviews: one on the channel “Oplot TV”, where he was talking about Maidan, etc., and the second one was theoretical – about ideological constructions and structures, what could be better for the DPR.
Therefore, all these words about ideological subversion are fiction. What diversion do you mean? The movement to Ukraine? So he’s left a house in Kiev, he is a refugee there. He has no any house and his son hasn’t too. All of this is just innuendo.
Bi-bi-si: What do you intend to do?
A.P.: Maybe I leave to rest for a week. In front of me now there is a very wide choice of activities. A huge mountain of work in Parliament fell from the shoulders, and I can choose the direction in which I could participate. I am going to create what we created for the decade – “Donetsk Republic”. It was officially registered in 2005; for very many years it was prosecuted by the courts – 15-languid criminal cases. I and two of my friends – one now dead, one alive – that’s the two of us, we are alive and we will continue the work to which we devoted the whole our life.
