Iconic American professional boxer, Olympic champion and winner of many titles Roy Jones asked Vladimir Putin to grant him Russian citizenship.
The interview took place in Crimea, where Jones came to participate in the international Boxing show “Battle at the mountain Gasfort”.
Roy Jones asked Putin why he took up judo, and they also discussed the history of martial arts, Vladimir Hryunov who is the promoter of the athlete told to the correspondent of LifeNews. They also agreed that sport, regardless of type, makes the real man and allows us to achieve goals.
At some point of their talk Roy speaking about the prospects of his business in Russia asked Mr Putin to grant him Russian citizenship.
“I think that if I, for example, was with a Russian passport, it’d be a lot easier to go back and forth, because people here love the sport and I love this place,” said Jones.
“Putin said that if the plans of Jones are “long-term and serious intentions” then, of course, the President of Russia is not against it,” said Hryunov noting that citizenship of Jones would be a double: Russian and American.
In turn American boxer expressed the view that sport can help to build a bridge between Russia and the USA.
