Today, on December 25, at the capital’s Lenin square were lit Christmas lights of main tree of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
Festivities began at 14:00, in front of the audience with songs and dances by Amateur groups; also the audience was presented a traditional festive event with the search for the missing main Christmas characters – Father Frost and Snow Maiden. In addition, children and adults were entertained by the animators in the images of cheerful animals. Here in the square worked as food stalls and souvenir shops. And already along toward evening the lights of the Christmas tree were lit up under the chiming clock on the post office “In the sky of Donetsk”. The ceremony was attended by first persons of Republic – the Head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko, the Head of Donetsk city administration Igor Martynov, the Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov.
Referring to residents of the Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko said:
“Dear compatriots, happy year 2016! Today, together with you, we are opening the main Christmas tree. Like last year, our tree is the best and most beautiful. My dear, I wish you that everything negative that has happened in 2015 is left in the past year, and new one was only good. I wish that happiness, health, peace and love met us in 2016!”
Finally, Zakharchenko was joking on the ban of the Kyiv junta Father Frost and Snow Maiden:
“As you know, Ukraine has banned Father Frost and Snow Maiden, so all the Fathers Frost and Snow Maidens are here now, with us!”
