Locking of the transit of the Ukrainian confectionery products to Asia through Russia will lead to the loss of $ 200 million of export revenue per year.
This was announced by the President of the Association “Ukrainian confectionery industry” Alexander Baldynyuk.
“Complete blocking of transit to Central Asia and the Caucasus, Mongolia, part of China — this in a year about 200 million dollars or 140 thousand tons in natural terms,” said Baldynyuk.
According to him, Russia has restricted the transit of Ukrainian confectionery products gradually. Deliveries to Azerbaijan were blocked two months ago, and to Armenia and Georgia – two weeks ago.
He noted that to save foreign currency proceeds the Ukrainian confectioners have to calculate alternative ways of delivery, including to consider the option of TRANS-Caspian international transport route bypassing Russia.
“Regardless of who banned the transit, Ukrainian confectioners at least temporarily lost the markets of Central Asia while finding new possible ways of delivery of their products with its cost increase. It is therefore important for confectioners the lobbying for alternative ways of delivery using New Silk Road,” he explained.
However, it is worth Recalling that Ukrainian container train Ilyichevsk-China, sent to bypass Russia in the framework of the project “New Silk Way” missed the return route from China due to the lack of customers.
