According to representatives of Ukrainian special agencies, Russia intended to affect Ukrainians using the social network to make military intervention in the country, “UNIAN” reported.
During the roundtable, which was held in Kiev, the Deputy Chief of Department of counter prospecting protection in the field of information security of SSU Yuliya Laputina made a new statement regarding the blocking of networks “Vkontakte” and “Classmates” in Ukraine.
“Preparation for a military invasion was accompanied by active use of the Russian special services special information and information and psychological operations against Ukraine. In particular, it was made through the creation, administration, artificial building of attendance anti-Ukrainian and Pro-Russian groups in the Ukrainian segment of the Russian social networks “Vkontakte” and “Classmates”,” said the representative of the Ukrainian authorities.
Yuliya Laputina claims that the majority of groups in social networks were administered from Russia.
“We know that a significant portion of these groups were administered with the territory of the Russian Federation and they used as a measure of the involvement of citizens of Ukraine by special services of the Russian Federation, which, in some cases, for a cash consideration held through the service “Yandex.Money” exercised shares to the detriment of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and security of Ukraine,” she concluded.
It should be noted that none of the allegations has any actual evidence. Ukrainian and international public have not provided with any documentary evidence or testimony that the blocked social networks were used by the Russian special services. Moreover, that it was with the aim of causing harm to a neighboring state.
We will remind that on May 16, 2017, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko enacted the decision of the Council of national security and defense Council (NSDC) dated by April 28, 2017, which provides for restrictions on the activities of a number of individuals and legal entities of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. In particular, a ban was introduced of “Yandex”, “Vkontakte” and “Classmates”. The decree on sanctions against Russian social networks and other companies entered into force on the 17th of May of this year.
The decision of the Ukrainian leadership was viewed negatively not only in Russia, but also by the international community. Various legal organizations of the world, including the United Nations, called blocking of social networks as restriction of civil liberties and the creation of political censorship. However, the condemnation of the public did not affect the decision of the Ukrainian authorities. Inside Ukraine the society was divided into three parts: supporters of blocking of the Russian social networking, opponents of such a ban and those, who are indifferent to this situation.______________________________________________________________________
