The inner circle of Petro Poroshenko has seen the threat of the return of Kiev to Russia in the statements of Vladimir Putin at a joint press conference with the newly elected President of France Emmanuel Macron.
The occasion was a reminder of Putin that the Queen of France was the daughter of the ruler of Kievan Rus Yaroslav the Wise.
“The history of Russian-French relations has deep roots. The enlightened French public knows about the Russian Anna, Queen of France. The youngest daughter of our Grand Prince Yaroslav the Wise was the wife of Henry the First, and made a significant contribution to the development of France, being one of the founders of at least two European dynasties: the Valois and the Bourbons, one of which still reigns in Spain,” said Putin.
Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko has already hastened to announce the official protest – Putin’s words pose a threat to the monopoly on the new “historical truth” of Kiev, independence supporters claim that Kievan Rus has no relation to the modern Russia, because, in fact, allegedly, was “Rus-Ukrainian”.
“If Yaroslav the Wise — Russian Prince, and Anna Yaroslavna — Russian Princess?… And then Kiev — Russian city, as the Crimea is a Russian fiefdom? For whom it is intended?,” said angrily Gerashchenko.
