More than 7 thousand tons of wastes were collected in Lvov that couldn’t be taken out because the Memorandum signed on April, 21 fails.
This was stated by city mayor Andrei Sadovoy at an extraordinary meeting of the city Commission on questions techno genetic-ecological situation and emergency situations.
“I say that today there is a problem – more than 7 thousand tons of waste lying on the ground, they couldn’t be taken out, having in Ukraine thousands of polygons. All say that there is no problem; the Memorandum was signed and all agreed. Unfortunately, the Memorandum does not work to the extent that we expected,” said Sadovoy.
According to him, only three cities have agreed to accept a total of 80 tons of waste from the city per day.
The mayor of the city said that in the morning he called Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Kistion, and later held meetings with the leadership of the regional Council and regional state administration.
“If the state will be consistent, will keep the word, then the issue can be resolved, and if not, it should be taken quite other measures… We have informed all services have to be ready for the next step and the next step is an initiative of the state of emergency, but such a decision can only be accepted by the state,” said Sadovoy.
On the 21st of April, the mayors of 20 cities of Lvov region, Lvov regional state administration, and Lvov regional Council and Lvov city Council signed a Memorandum under which cities agree to accept the garbage from the city for 2 years.
